During a Wellness Exam or Sick Visit at Black Mountain Animal Hospital, your veterinarian may recommend one or more of the following tests based on your pet’s age, history, and current condition.
Complete Blood Count (CBC) & Chemistry Panel
This routine blood test provides a broad look at your pet’s internal health, detecting signs of infection, anemia, organ function issues, and more.
Urinalysis
A urinalysis evaluates kidney and urinary tract health. It can also help identify issues like infections or early signs of diabetes.
Fecal Testing
Recommended during checkups or sick visits, this test screens for parasites and can uncover the cause of vomiting, diarrhea, or digestive upset.
Heartworm Screening
A quick blood test to detect heartworm disease. Annual testing is essential for dogs, while cats may be tested as needed.
Tick-Borne Disease Testing
If your pet has had tick exposure, we may run tests for Lyme disease, anaplasma, or ehrlichia—usually 4–6 weeks after a bite.
Skin & Ear Cytology
If we suspect an ear or skin infection, we may take a sample to identify yeast, bacteria, or inflammation under a microscope.
Culture & Sensitivity Testing
Used to confirm bacterial infections and determine which antibiotic is most effective. Samples are typically collected from urine, skin, or ears.
Vaccine Titer Testing
Titer tests measure antibody levels to assess whether your pet is still protected from certain diseases without the need for a booster.
Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA)
If your pet has a lump or mass, we may collect a small sample with a needle to check for cancer, cysts, or benign growths.
