It’s important for your pet to visit a veterinarian for routine physical exams and vaccines to maintain their well-being and happiness. The number of visits required varies based on several factors, such as breed, age, lifestyle, and any existing health issues. For instance, puppies should be seen once a month, while a healthy adult dog may only need an annual check-up.
Since pets cannot express when they are unwell (some may even try to conceal their pain), regular check-ups are a crucial aspect of ensuring their health. During these check-ups, our veterinarians conduct a thorough nose-to-tail examination, including assessments of your pet’s weight, temperature, pulse, lungs, ears, mouth, and teeth. Our vet will also ask you questions about your pet’s diet, water intake, activity level, weight changes, and behavior changes. Additionally, our vet will conduct diagnostic tests and administer vaccinations. Depending on your pet’s individual needs, additional steps may be taken during these visits, such as discussions about spaying or neutering for younger pets. All of this information assists our veterinarian in determining your pet’s overall health and helps in early detection and prevention of potential issues. Dr. Render is the founder of Render HeartCare, a mobile cardiology service based in San Diego. He earned his veterinary degree from Cornell University and completed advanced training in internal medicine and cardiology through internships and a residency at MedVet Columbus. His clinical interests include congenital heart defects and cardiac tumor evaluations.
When he’s not caring for pets, Dr. Render enjoys sports, cooking shows, and comedies.
Meet Dr. Cocker, a board-certified small animal internal medicine specialist based in San Diego. After earning her veterinary degree from Oklahoma State University, she completed advanced training in internal medicine and critical care across Texas before returning to California for her residency. She has a special interest in gastrointestinal and liver disease and contributed to Ettinger’s textbook on internal medicine. Outside of work, Dr. Cocker enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband and child.
